Shamanic Counseling
“Why should I see a Shamanic counselor instead of or in addition
to a regular therapist? What does Shamanic Counseling offer that traditional
therapies do not? How can Shamanic counseling enhance the work I am already
doing?”
Clients often ask these questions. As both
a certified counselor and a Shamanic practitioner, I believe that I offer
the best of both worlds. I treat the whole person not just the aspect
encompassed by psychological theory. I often combine psychological techniques
with Shamanic methods, including teaching the client to journey, which
is an effective tool for self-empowerment.
When a client learns to journey, they are
able to access the deepest part of their own inner wisdom. The way I combine
these approaches is tailored to fit each client. I also encourage people
to seek help from other healers and health professionals if they feel
that they can benefit from their services.
Another advantage of Shamanic counseling
is that it focuses on restoring the client’s personal power. Consequently,
their ability to make productive and long lasting changes in their life
increases. From the Shamanic perspective, all physical illnesses and psychological
problems are the result of “power loss”. Power loss refers
to the loss of a person’s original essence or energy. By restoring
personal power, the client becomes able to act effectively and move forward.
In traditional therapy, clients may “know”
what they need to do in order to transform their lives, but often do not
possess inner resources to implement these changes, despite good advice
and counseling. In Shamanic Counseling, when a client learns to journey,
they receive mentoring and guidance from their spiritual helpers and teachers.
They are encouraged to listen to and respond to the strong internal voice
of their soul. When this occurs, perspectives change and profound shifts
in behavior occur.
Shamanic counseling puts clients in touch
with their own personal support team. Each person has many spiritual helpers
and teachers who are waiting to be called upon once the client knows how
to contact them. They provide the client with emotional and spiritual
support, advice, and incentives to work through their issues. These allies
and guides are available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week and are very happy
to make house calls! Their constant presence and encouragement allows
the client to progress quickly and to take responsibility for their own
healing.
